Every wedding has a story.

I make it my job to notice it.

Analogue photography. Digital photography. Cinematic film.

Your wedding, observed and interpreted.

Joseph McCarthy

I love people, good music, and even better stories. Fortunately, weddings are full of all three.

I’m Joseph, a photographer and filmmaker based in Norfolk.

My work sits somewhere between observation and interpretation. I’m interested in the moments that happen without direction, but also in what can be created with composition, light and a little intention. The result is a mixture of candid photography, deliberate portraiture and cinematic film that feels specific to the people in it.

Alongside digital photography and filmmaking, I work with analogue film and the traditional darkroom process all in-house. Not for nostalgia’s sake, but because I love the physical process of making a photograph from exposure through to the finished print.

I’ll take the photography seriously. I don’t require your wedding to take itself seriously.

There’ll be direction when it makes the photograph better, space when the moment needs some, and plenty of room for everything unexpected in between.

Just your wedding, observed and interpreted.

“Joseph captured our wedding perfectly on film and has given us memories to keep. He went the extra mile to understand us, as people, and our plans for the day.”
